*Landlines are going from 2025, Yes but obviously will still work but in a different way, instead of a dedicated analogue line, phone providers will carry your line as a ‘Cloud’ or better known as VoIP, which means that your phone will plug directly into your router instead of a conventional line jack. Already many companies and business have ditched their PBX systems and already use this technology, it also allows ‘multi line’ appearance but without the need for multiple old fashioned copper wiring to deliver individual ‘pairs’ to provide each line.
One drawback may be certain situations where a single PSTN (copper line) is used i.e Lift phone, burglar alarm line to monitoring station or similar, however all of these scenarios can be modified in future using a ‘Cloud/VoIP’ line by means of an analogue terminal adaptor (A.T.A)
I personally already have installed lots of cloud phones and cordless DECT phones in harmony with ATA’s, so really no need to panic.
VirginMedia are already using their routers with an ANALOGUE port whereas previously their external network was Coax and telephone feed using ‘shotgun’ cabling, now all new installs are single coax cable with the upgraded router with analogue port.
Also all ISDN2e and ISDN30 services will cease around the same time, help is at hand if needed.
